These improvements are the combination of two projects, one at the intersection of 170th Avenue/Florence Street and the other along Florence Street, between 165th and 175th avenues.
Florence Street Pedestrian Improvement Project
We will build a new sidewalk along one side of Florence Street, between 165th and 175th avenues. In addition to the new sidewalk, which may alternate sides along Florence Street, the project involves additional or updated lighting at the intersections of Florence and 175th, 173rd and 165th avenues, and the installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps.
This $1.1 million project, funded by Gain Share, was selected by the Urban Road Maintenance Advisory Committee (URMDAC) based on the need for a safe pedestrian route along Florence Street.
170th Avenue at Florence Street Intersection Improvement Project
We will build a signalized pedestrian crossing at the intersection. Street lights and push-button activated crosswalk signals will be installed at this intersection. ADA-compliant ramps will also be installed.
The project, estimated at $542,000, is funded through House Bill 2017 and Urban Road Maintenance District (URMD). It was selected for funding based on public requests and selection by the Urban Road Maintenance District Advisory Committee (URMDAC).
Since 2011, 62 Urban Road Maintenance District (URMD) Pedestrian and Biking Improvement Projects totaling over $33 million have been funded. The public can submit Pedestrian and Biking Improvement proposals. Eligible proposals are added to the Pedestrian and Biking Improvements candidate list, which currently has more than 200 candidates.
